The Service Concept of »Wir Hier« is a Service Design Project from the »Koeln International School of Design«. It shows how service design can be used to change society in a positive way, transforming the way that people interact with their environment and with each other.

The RSA asked us to choose a contradiction to look at and we decided on: »You don’t see what you already have«. This contradiction is one that everybody understands and to some degree, »suffers« from.

The next stage in our process was to work with this contradiction in relation to a group, rather than an individual, because people tend to think more and more on a individual basis, without seeing the possibilities of appreciating what you have as a collective. We wanted to address relevant problems in western society at the moment: problems of isolation, of a lack of social contact, and the fact that many people don't see the possibilities of a group. The title of the Service Design section of the competition was »Changing States of Mind« But how is this possible?

We came to the conclusion that there are four stages in the process: Attention, Change Relationship, Community and Continuity.

We then developed a group of services, each with the purpose of gradually »shifting« behaviour and opinions from one area to the next. By using a group of services we are able to be more dynamic, and also be open to changes, rather than a »one-size-fits-all« service. The other criteria that we set ourselves was to be accessible, and to aid people in helping themselves, rather than dictate what should happen.
